Up for sale is a heavily used Van Nuys era Pete Townshend Telecaster. These are pretty rare guys and date back to when Schecter was just a parts shop in California. Tom Anderson (of Anderson Guitars) ended up building a telecaster for Pete Townshend and after that a few people special ordered them.
I've had this for several years, but the man I bought it from bought it from one of the Black Crowe's guitar techs and they used this guitar on tour and it shows I don't really have any way of proving this, but I trust the man that sold it to me and he's always finding and collecting that type of used gear.
Features:
- - Maple neck with walnut skunk stripe
- - Schecter Anderon wound pickups
- - Coil split push-pull knobs that when both engaged with the selector in the middle position give a nice out of phase or in-series sound, not sure which.
Issues:
- - It's obvious this guitar has been through a lot and I'm not quite sure what it's worth, but feel free to make offers.
- - It looks like the top may have been refinished and there's a line underneath the paint below the bridge that I tried to catch in one of the up close photos.
- - The nut is broken, but the intonation is good and it stays in tune perfect. I've played out with it and had no tuning issues.
- - There's a mark exposing the wood on the bottom that I got a close up of.
- - Some occasional binding chips. See photos.
- - The back has plenty of buckle rash and chips etc.
SOUND:
- - It honestly is one of my most versatile guitars.
- - The neck pickup can get a nice rock kick, do a nice throaty blues sound, roll off for a nice muted jazz tone, and coil-split for a pretty convincing strat vibe.
- - The bridge pickup can kick really hard and also has a pretty good coil split sound.
- - Both pickups split with the middle toggle in the middle yields a great funk sound.
When I played in top 40 bands this was my main guitar even though I had much more expensive and "theoretically better", I could just cover so much ground with this one and it has a great tone.
If you have any questions let me know and don't be afraid to offer!
