Epiphone FV-70 Flying V, made in Japan, year 2000. Do not let the Epiphone name plate scare you, this guitar has nothing in common with 99.99% of the Epis on the market. This guitar was made in the Terada factory and is identical to the Orville by Gibson Flying V made in the years before. Gibson had Terada and Fuji Gen Gakki make flying V's [and other Gibson copies] for the Japanese market from around the late 80's to about 2000. Around 1998, Gibson dropped the 'Orville" name and started calling these 'Epiphones'. The Fuji made ones had vibrolas and are not exactly correct to the original. The Terada made ones were much nicer and more correct to a 1975-77 Gibson Flying V, minus the volute. Terada made all the Epiphone Elitist models and has been building the top line Gretsch guitars since about 2005. The Gibson copies that Terada made were actually nicer and of higher quality than what Gibson was putting out at the time, and they were never imported into the USA. This one has a Mahogany body and neck with a beautiful cherry finish. All original. plays perfect, low action, rings true. Very correct to the real deal. It has the thin body at 1.315", correct narrow nut at 1.59", right pickguard shape, bridge studs are threaded into the wood, no inserts, ect. Neck profile is very much like a 1967 Flying V, somewhat slim with nice full shoulders. It measures .830 at the 1st fret and .915 at the 12th. Weighs 6.25 lbs. Pickups measure in the high 7k ohm range and sound really good. Very clean save for a few little nicks shown in the pictures. Also looks like it had a vibrola on it at one time, three little holes have been plugged and touched up [see pictures]. These guitars are pretty rare, I doubt if they made more than a couple hunderd in all those years. Comes with a genuine Gibson Flying V case, brown with pink lining in very good condition. Comes with some cool extras. I have had around 20 Flying V guitars since 1973, and this one is right at the top as far as quality and feeling like the real deal. No disappointment here. Lower 48 USA shipping only. Thanks for looking.
