About This Listing

Up for sale, a 2020 Macmull S-Classic in mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and COA. A newer boutique builder hailing from Jerusalem and generating quite a buzz, Macmull is extremely rigorous and exacting in creating the ideal S-style instrument. From hand-wound pickups voiced to the particular instrument, to premium plastics and hardware, to a deep vetting process of their wood selection, Macmull zeroes in on all the finer details of golden age electric guitar construction.

This S-Classic has an alder body, and while it's not quite in Macmull's "Superlight" category (under 3.25kg), a premium price was still paid by the original buyer for a lightweight piece of wood. The guitar weighs 7lbs 5oz, and in addition to hand-selecting old growth timber that's lightweight and kiln-dried, Macmull also factors in the wood's age when cut and its grain and texture. All in the service of the most resonant, lively instrument possible, this alder body is paired with a one-piece maple neck which has a deep V profile.

Macmull not only hand-winds their pickups and tailors them for each specific instrument, the alnico magnets chosen are also informed by the wood choice. This trio of black bobbin single coils is wired to a traditional five-way switch, with a RWRP middle pickup and harness comprising CTS pots and a "phone book" capacitor just like a '50s Strat. The bridge pickup has a chewy sparkle and cut, snappy but never brittle, while the velvety and sweet-sounding neck pickup delivers round, fat sounds that sing either through thick overdrive or a clean signal. There is also notably great quack and spank on tap in positions 2 and 4, and a nice percussive chop with the middle pickup singled out. We've dialed in the factory setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and this Macmull is strung with fresh 10-46 strings.

The maple neck has a substantial V-shaped carve, with silky smooth bare maple along the profile as part of the relic process and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .895" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 9 1/2" radius and flawless 6105 fretwire, playing effortlessly up the 25 1/2" scale. The bone nut measures 42.2mm in width (just fractionally over 1.650"), and the matching peghead has a gold Macmull silkscreen and aged gold Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines.

All of the gold hardware has light patina as part of the factory aging process, including the "Custom Built" neck plate inscribed for the original owner. Plastics include a mint green wide bevel pickguard and ivory pickup cover and knobs which have greened text. The "Greeny Placid" nitro lacquer finish splits the difference between a greened-out Lake Placid Blue and Ocean Turquoise, and this metallic gloss shows no wear beyond the light, tasteful factory relic treatment.

The original hardshell case is included with a deep brown tooled leather exterior.
