This is a vintage 1960s Kay K573 Speed Demon with a transparent red finish. The Speed Demon came about during a time when guitars were surging in popularity and Kay was up to the task of making sure there were plenty available. Most of these guitars were semi-hollow and made with laminate woods, which kept them affordable, but also gave them a special, mid-rangey tone.
This K573 plays great, too. It has an amazing, chunky neck that fits comfortably in your hand. Its single-coil pickups are lively and articulate, balancing the natural tone of guitar very well. Its in great shape with some tarnish on its hardware, some expected nicks and grazes here and there, but its finish is still shiny and vibrant. It is missing its pickguard and some of its knobs' inserts, but it is otherwise original and sounds awesome both plugged in and acoustically.
It has been professionally setup with and comes with its originalchipboard case.
