Joe Maphis lent his name to a number of Mosrite models over the years, and following his death in 1986 Mosrite issued what would be the last production run of Joe Maphis instruments, the doubleneck JM65. That same year, however, Semie Moseley produced a one-of-a-kind instrument inspired by the Joe Maphis model singleneck of the mid 1960s, custom ordered by his friend Ross Coan Jr. Whereas the original Joe Maphis model sported a spruce top, walnut back and standard Mosrite hardware and features, this Joe Maphis Custom has a birdseye / blister maple top on a figured walnut back, handmade maple and walnut split coil humbuckers, Grover imperial tuners, bound headstock and sterling silver headstock and fretboard inlays. Signed on the back of the headstock "Hand made for Ross Coan Jr. by Semie Moseley 1986." Semie further customized this unique instrument by stamping his friends name and date of birth into the fretboard.
All wear is from age and purely superficial. Discoloration on back of neck and bottom edge of body from guitar stand. Open seam in back of body from age. Otherwise excellent, rarely played condition. See pics.
I have done my best to supply numerous photographs of this instrument in natural light from all possible angles. Please examine the pictures carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding.
