Up for sale, a 1977 Greco EG700 in perfect working order, honestly played and professionally setup. An upper-tiered "lawsuit era" LP Standard produced by Greco at Japan's Fujigen factory, this EG700 preceded the Super Real series of instruments, and it's worth noting that Gibson would later use the same Fujigen factory to produce their Orville line of guitars exclusively for their Japanese customers.
Taking a page from Gibson's late 1970s playbook, tonewoods include a two-piece carved maple top over a sandwich mahogany body, and a three-piece maple neck capped with an ebony fingerboard. At 10lbs 3oz, this Greco dishes out plenty of natural sustain and sonic authority, qualities that are translated faithfully through the pair of humbuckers. These pickups are dynamic and clear, with an authoritative growl and cut in the bridge position, while the neck pickup is smooth and round. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Greco with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with a hair more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard features fret edge binding and pearloid trapezoid inlay (the highest three inlays on the board have been replaced), and the vintage-spec medium jumbo fretwire has well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. This Greco plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the original "Standard" truss rod cover is present, along with the inlaid pearloid Greco logo and set of Greco-branded tuners in the style of Grover Rotomatics.
All of the electronics work as they should, comprising the original Maxon-made neck position humbucker and a similar Japanese humbucker in the bridge position that compliments the Maxon well in terms of perceived output and tonal properties. Hardware includes the Nashville-style bridge and corresponding stopbar tailpiece, both of which show uniform surface patina on the nickel plating. Plastics comprise cream pickup rings and switch surround, as well as the original cream pickguard and a quartet of gold reflector cap knobs which are in excellent condition.
The Cherry Sunburst gloss finish is rich and bold, exhibiting honest playwear including some finish chips, scuffs and dings on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its gloss finish, with two small clusters of dings, located roughly at frets 3 and 7, which have no impact on overall playability.
