This is a 7C trumpet mouthpiece with "7C" etched on it in a nice serif font. You can use it by tightening your embouchure and passing air through the aperture between your lips. This will produce a buzzing sound that can be transferred between your lips, to the mouthpiece, and again to a trumpet, which this mouthpiece is designed to fit. From there, you can adjust the pitch of the sound coming from the bell of the instrument by changing the frequency that your lips are buzzing, but you will also need to change the internal resonance of the horn. To do this, there should be three (3) valves on the trumpet that, when pressed by your first three (3) fingers on your right hand, will functionally create a longer resonance tube within the instrument. This adjusts the natural frequency of the entire body of the instrument, and the sound is projected out of the bell. The trick to playing the trumpet is synchronizing this natural frequency and the frequency of your buzzing, while also making sure that the buzz is as consistent as possible with a steady stream of air. Precisely interrupting this stream of air with your tongue will allow you to articulate the start, or "attack" of your notes and allow you to play faster and more complex rhythms.
