Vintage Urei graphic room equalizer. Fun for vintage/rack gear folks. Works great, sounds good, does its job :) Regular rack rash, but very good condition over all.
Quick explanation of how the sound of graphic eqs has changed (why go vintage ;):
All modern graphic EQ's are now using bandpass filters instead of gyrators. Those are known as "constant Q" designs. Great for null tuning, horrible for getting sounds.
The bandpass filters retain bandwidth at any amount of gain, older 'proportional Q" graphic EQ's extrapolate the curves into a smooth line, great for getting sounds. UREI, Altec and MXR are all examples of the gyrator graphic EQ designs.
Make a smiley face on a propotional Q graphic, it looks like a smile, nice and smooth. Do the same curve on a modern graphic with consant Q and you see ripples at each band center, thay cannot be removed. The resulting small peaks sound horrible and create messed up phase response curves too.
