I took this in on a partial trade and dont even know where to begin…
It’s an old Gibson SG. I was told its a 71 but cant confirm. The best I could find serial number-wise appears to be a “6” as a first number, which of course is near impossible to capture. After this was at least established I used rubbing alcohol to get rid of some of the paint in search of the entire serial number, but whoever painted it must’ve sanded most of it off.
Its been horribly: rerouted, sanded, painted, filled, cavity capped, soldered, rerouted some more, and probably touched inappropriately after having gone out for a bad dinner. I don’t know if its been repaired or not. I pass the torch to you.
The neck appears straight, Im not touching the truss rod. The electronics surprisingly work except for the neck pickup. Holds tune and plays well. Frets are worn. Low E string can slip off the fretboard if pressed at the wrong angle, but thats how all of these old fellas were as you know (but that also hints at the year it was made along with the narrow neck at the headstock, so it counts for something).
Overall could be a badass mad max project for those without a care, or a fun challenge for only the most hearty.
