A very rare gem of a guitar! From the famous Tokai factory comes this solid spruce top, Jacaranda back and sides (Japanese Laminate) powerhouse of a guitar! Japanese laminate consists of solid layers of tone wood (normally two layers) bonded with natural resins for solid wood sound but better durability and crack resistance. Check out the awesome grain on the back! This guitar cost 200,000 Japanese yen in 1979 and it was the second from the top of the line (HW-250). That was about a month’s salary for a college graduate at that time. Beautiful abalone trim and snowflake inlays. Grover tuners.
The guitar plays and sounds great, no cracks or significant defects. Really full and loud sound! There is some patina on the tuners that would polish out but I left it. There is some discoloration in the sides of the guitar, see pictures for condition. The back and top are both near perfect. The end pin is not original and appears the wrong diameter but it’s secure so I left it.
