About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1950 Gibson LG-2 3/4 vintage acoustic guitar, complete with the original form fit chipboard case. Produced in smaller quantities than its full-size LG brethren, the LG-2 3/4 measures 12 3/4" across the lower bout width with a 22 3/4" scale length. Tonewoods include a ladder-braced spruce top, Honduran mahogany back and sides, one-piece mahogany neck, and Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.

This pint-sized LG has a clear, singing tone with excellent projection and sweetness, offering a boxy bark indicative of its ladder-braced design. Treble strings have a sparkling snap, and the wound strings deliver a rich percussive cut and low-midrange warmth. The instrument is featherweight at 2lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-54 strings and comfortable action.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a round U-shaped neck profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original slender banjo frets which show very light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard, playing cleanly up the 22 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock is fitted with a set of modern Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably. Visible through the soundhole, the factory order number is very bold, stamped on the neck heel.

The original Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush on the top, fitted with a modern carved bone saddle that has good height, with action that sits at 8/64” on the bass side at the 12th fret and 6/64” on the treble side. The dark red tortoise pickguard also sits flat with the spruce, and there is prominent strum wear across the soundhole, with some additional superficial dings and scuffs on top. The Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and wear is limited to some small nicks and light finish scratches on the back and sides, with one very slight repaired split on the mahogany rim just of the treble side of the neck heel. The gloss finish on the neck profile is extremely clean and free of palm wear.

The original chipboard case is included with light brown leather trim, stock latches, and the original molded handle.
