A truly incredible and unique build from Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilder Fred Stuart, and honestly one of the most fun and inspiring instruments I’ve ever come across. The body is 1 piece ash with nitrocellulose 3 tone sunburst finish. Both necks are comfortable C profile shape with round laminate 7.25 radius rosewood fingerboards (period correct between ’63-’66), highly figured flame maple, and clay dots, also finished with nitrocellulose lacquer. Total weight of the instrument is 13 lbs 3 oz… which seemingly sounds heavier than it feels on this one. Switching and controls are very intuitive; the top horn has a 3-way switch to select Jaguar / both active / Bass VI, an on-off toggle for each pickup, and master volume and tone. Both sides of the instrument are set up to play low and comfortable, with all notes ringing clear.

The guitar is in exceptional condition for a 20+ year old instrument and has clearly been well cared for. A small scratch is visible near the pocket of the Bass VI neck, and a small finish blem on the bass side arm contour.

This is a one-of-a-kind instrument was custom ordered in 2000 and built by Fender Masterbuilder Fred Stuart. It was ordered by a dealer, and during the course of the build Stuart was informed that it was being built for Eddie Van Halen. Upon completion, the guitar was sent to Eddie to play. For unknown reasons (Eddie did have MusicMan EVH doublenecks of a similar configuration also built in that era, which could have possibly led this one to be a conflict of interest), the guitar ended up back in the hands of the Fender Custom Shop some time later and was eventually sold on to Virtual Vintage Guitars. The guitar comes with a letter of provenance from Fred Stuart detailing the Van Halen association of the instrument, a photo of Stuart with the completed doubleneck, and Certificates of Authenticity.
