About This Listing
This is the classic and now somewhat rare all-original "Philco Tube Radio, Model 41-246 code 121" dating from 1941.
I'm selling this radio as "NOT WORKING", however, it does POWER-ON when it is plugged in. After plugging-in one can hear a very feint hum, and 5 of the 7 valves light up slightly orange at their inner bottom. (And they get warm!). However, I haven't been able to pick up/ hear any radio signals / static. So consider this radio "NOT FUNCTIONAL". Dials / Buttons: The "on/off" bottom pushes in and out but it does not work >>> The radio powers "on" when I plug it in, and "off" when I remove the plug from the socket. The "band selector" dial turns fine. The "dial tuning" dial turns but seems a little loose. The "volume" dial turns fine. (But of course I cannot hear anything). The "bass" dial turns fine. The 5 pre-select station buttons (next to the on/off button) click in and out sporadically. Sometimes they do so fine, other times, not. I'm not sure why this is!? The cabinet has dinks and nicks in it. See picture 9 >>> On the top some of the plastic edging has come away from the screw that's meant to be holding it down. It's solid though.
The radio has 7 Loktal Tubes inside. (5 of which light up slightly when turned on). This radio also comes with a sheet "manual of 1941 most popular service diagrams" (compiled by MN Beitman, Supreme Publications.
I'm not an electrician or radio fixer, but I'm guessing this radio may be easy to fix by someone who knows about such things!? Or maybe a labor of love for someone who is learning about 1940s radios. And of course, just as it is... this is a rare and beautiful mantel, shelf, mancave or retro table ornament that will be the talk of whatever setting it finds itself in.
Size: 16" wide x 12" height x 9 1/4" depth. It weighs approx 15lbs.
Great gift for the memorabilia collector of rare items.
