Refurbished, all original, killer tone. This is the super rare STEREO version with highly aught after ping pong Magnetone vibrato.
We specialize in the rarest and coolest items available on Reverb (just look at our shop!) and this is amp is one of only 200 stereo Magnatones ever made! Looks and sounds incredible. Matching serials, all original.
Insanely rare, insanely cool. Fully refurbished and serviced July 2022. This flagship guitar amplifier is a genuine 1961 STEREO (!) Magnatone production tube amp made for their Pancordion ”Accordion Division”. You will probably never see a stereo 260 like this again and we’re in no rush to sell this one :)
New replacement identical grill cloth and genuine badges, polished original tolex, original wiring, new glass, original foot switch, unmolested topology (no mods) and original Oxford (Model 12K5R-1) Alnico Magnet 12 Inch 8 Ohm Speakers that sound like new. Amp is super quiet and does exactly what it was made to do, sound lush and beautiful in mono or glorious stereo.
Stereo is something to behold. Have you ever heard a fender rhodes with Peterson stereo preamp produce ping pong tremolo while you stand between to oscillating speakers? Arcane magic. You have that same magic here with the original holy grail Bonham brand tremolo circuit that made Magnatone famous… but in STEREO!
If you are unaware of the iconic Magnatone trem, it is truly one of a kind. Tremolo sounds like nothing else on earth. As you probably know, the trem on this amp is why these amps are so desirable and sought after. The analog pitch warbling magic of the Magnatone tremolo must be heard to be believed and truly appreciated.
I’m in no rush to sell but talkin’ money and Trades are always welcome for the collector who wants the best Magnatone there is. Pickup in northern NJ only 15 minutes from downtown manhattan nyc. Delivery available in tristate area. Pls msg me before purchasing to work out logistics, this is a very heavy and fragile amp.
HISTORY AND SPECS:
Ernest Deffner and his Pancordion Company distributed high end professional accordions, and the Panaramic was their flagship amplifier, made by Magnatone. The Panaramics were 100% Magnatone amps with some very cool added upgraded features, making it a model 260… but better. This 1220 model is so insanely rare that it is believed only a few hundred were ever produced, possibly less so chances of finding another are nearly impossible.
The model 1220 started in the Magnatone factory as a 260 amp and actually shared many of the larger Magnatone 460 model features. Most important, the vibrato channel is a true Bonham original Magnatone and shares the identical legendary circuit. Unlike the regular 260 however, this particular circuit even accepts a 1/4 inch stereo TRS input, and completes with two 1/4 inch outputs located to the right of the vibrato control section. (The 460 Magnatone vibrato channel did not include dual outs making this even cooler than the fabled 460.)
This Amplifier is working GREAT now and sounds amazing. It has a tube layout of 8 tubes. One 5U4GB rectifier, Three 12AX7, Two 6CG7 for the vibrato, and Two 6L6 tubes. While the front panel boasts "135 watts", the RMS for this amp is around 35 watts (135 is the actual consumption). It is surprisingly loud though and rivals my Monstrous reverb twin. It weighs in around 45 Lbs so pls contact me for logistics or any trade ideas you might have. These specs are almost the same as the Magnatone 460 amplifier of 1961 that was a two channel amp, each channel using a 12AX7 for gain, and a volume- treble- bass control setup per channel in typical Baxandall arrangement. The FM Vibrato is the clever 4 varistor circuit of fame.
This amp is nearly all original and transformer matches the chassis. Both 12 inch speakers cones and paper are still original, and as far as I can tell. The point to point electronics have not been altered either. Speakers sound like new and are basically mint. The exterior tolex was is original and tattered in spots (see pics for details) and the front grill cloth is replaced with identical material/color. The top leather carry handle is a black leather style handle which is steel enforced. It even comes with the original wooden on/off mono footswitch (shown)!
Comes with unobtanium original schematic of the advanced features not found in the 260 model, included.
Super quiet noise floor and very loud output. 35 watt, 100watt RMS power consumption produces a wall of sound from two 12” cones. All pots and I/O have been professionally cleaned and lubricated properly. Amp was recently recapped where necessary and rewired where old cloth wiring had failed and was in danger of shorting.
Any questions please ask, open to trades of any kind. Thanks for looking have a great day. Sold as is in perfect working order. No returns due to delicate shipping. We cannot be held responsible for the brutes at the post so full insurance will be applied. Pls contact me prior to purchasing to work out shipping arrangements or for any trade ideas.
