One of the last mandolins to be produced by Martin before production ceased from 1942-46 during WWII. This Brazilian Rosewood Style B is not only a beautiful sounding, wonderfully playable completely original and intact work of vintage art. It is an extraordinarily rare mandolin which may account for the entire remaining production of Martin B style mandolins from 1941.
It is currently the only Martin B Style mandolin for sale online.
This mandolin has been played but loved and well cared for. There are No repairs, cracks or breaks. There is evidence of playing wear, namely pick scratches and some dings from normal play on the top. I have featured these areas in pictures #19-22. The most significant issue is some finish discoloration where the mandolin rested on the musician's leg while playing. This is simply aesthetic and has no effect on the mandolin aside from appearance. This area is visible in the pictures of the mandolin back and featured in pictures 17 & 18. Please view the pictures for a full aesthetic description. After 80 years of making music this mandolin has a few finish blemishes, yet overall the appearance in person is stunning as the finish has naturally aged with a beautiful even patina.
This mandolin is completely structurally sound. It has just been professionally inspected, setup, lightly cleaned and restrung with light strings. The neck is incredibly straight and the mandolin plays wonderfully with low action, no buzzing or dead spots. Additionally, there is plenty of room for future adjustments at the bridge.
The voice and tone this mandolin produces is the culmination of the finest tone woods in the world and decades of playing time allowing the wood to achieve its full potential. This mandolin is loud yet balanced, a rare and sought after trait attributed to the famed Brazilian rosewood. It possesses a deep punchy bass with clear mids and crisp highs that don't get lost when played loudly. With sustain is long enough to outlast any guitar, the vibrant responsiveness of this mandolin is the first thing you feel as the player. Truly a joy to play, this mandolin has the added bonus of contradicting the tonal stereotype many martin A style mandolins are labeled with.
The original case is included with the mandolin. It is functional with working latches, but it is well worn.
I am happy to answer questions.
This mandolin will ship professionally packaged and fully insured as soon as payment is received.
