Sell Yours Now Background

Up for sale, a 1978 Rickenbacker 4001, 100% original and remarkably clean save for some buckle rash on the back, with practically perfect frets and extremely well-kept hardware and plastics. This Rickenbacker thumps and growls with the best and the sustain is near endless, boasting a sleek gloss Jetglo finish. Strung with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings, there's plenty of midrange power and punch available via the two original Hi-Gain single coil pickups on this 4001. Weighing 9lbs 2oz, this 4001 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and solid intonation.

The three piece maple/walnut neck has a full D-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .910" deep at the 1st and 12th frets. The 33 1/4" scale is Rickenbacker's traditional long scale, and the gloss-finished slab rosewood fretboard features original slender frets and pearl triangle inlays. The frets have fret-edge binding, showing just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-3 beneath the E and A strings and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The original Rickenbacker logo/truss rod cover is present, and the bass features a set of original clover button tuning machines with smooth and reliable gears.

All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and an original harness with CTS pots that date to the 37th week of 1977. The Rick-o-Sound stereo jack plate has a cleanly stamped RC-prefix serial number that dates to March of 1978. All of the original plastic parts are intact including the pickguard, long baton switch tip, and quartet of knobs. The chrome-plated hardware is notably clean including the original bridge pickup bezel and bridge assembly, complete with the adjustable mute and original mute foam.

The Jetglo gloss finish shows buckle rash on the upper bout on the back, with some additional small dings and finish scratches on the back. Wear on the top is limited to some tiny marks and one small area of forearm wear through the gloss on the lower bout edge. The gloss finish on the neck profile is extremely clean, free of palm wear.

The original black tolex hardshell case with blue plush interior and black leather ends is included. All three latches are intact and functional, as is the stock handle.
