For a couple years now, Paul Reed Smith and Grammy Award-winning artist John Mayer have been working together to create a stunning contemporary classic that is sure to satisfy traditionalists and modernists alike. With this in mind, Paul Reed Smith is stoked to introduce the PRS Silver Sky John Mayer Signature guitar! Offering vintage vibes with the Mayer/Smith touch, a trio of PRS 635JM single-coil pickups, and premium modern/classic hardware, it's no question that this Silver Sky launches a timeless design into the stratosphere! Whether you're a blues guitarist, country player, or rocker, if you're looking to add an awesome vintage-inspired, yet incredibly modern axe to your collection, the PRS Silver Sky is sure to satisfy.
Vintage Vibes with the Mayer/Smith Touch
Of course, this Silver Sky pays tribute to those sought-after early '60s instruments, but it offers some unique present-day touches that you'd only expect from a guitar company as innovative as PRS and a guitar player as brilliant as Mayer. For starters, the maple neck is designed in the image of vintage instruments from '63/'64, featuring a 25.5" scale length, an old-school neck profile, and a vintage-style 7.25"-radius rosewood fingerboard. Taking this vintage neck and making it pure PRS, the fretboard showcases signature PRS bird inlays while the headstock sports an inverted version of PRS's exclusive shape at Mayer's request to accommodate his unique playing style while keeping the guitar in tune. The double-cut alder body has a timeless look, but what really sets it apart is the exclusive PRS lower horn scoop for enhanced upper-fret access.
A Trio of PRS 635JM Single-Coil Pickups
The PRS 635JM pickups give you fantastic tones that'll take your single-coil sound to new sonic heights. The tonal qualities of these pickups are rich and round, but what's really great about them is that the treble range is exceptionally musical compared to many other single-coil pickups. Contemporary 5-way switching allows for a wide tonal variety while the classic 2 tone/1 volume control layout gives players a familiar feel. It even comes equipped with a molded, curved metal jack plate that allows you to effortlessly plug in and unplug your guitar. From blues to country and even hard rock, these pickups provide this Silver Sky with an unbelievable sound.
Premium Modern/Classic Hardware
PRS takes traditional hardware design and brings it into the 21st century on the Silver Sky model. The nickel tuners may have classic roots with its vintage-style, closed-back design, but it employs PRS's locking design that makes them truly incredible. Additionally, the Silver Sky also comes fitted with a traditional-style steel tremolo, but a PRS trem arm and Gen III knife-edge screws were added for unparalleled performance. Just like the good ol' days, a bone nut rounds out this amazing instrument.
