Gibson SJ-200 Custom Rosewood with Fishman Elipse Aura Active pick up. Hand made in Bozeman, Montana in 2012. AAA Solid Sitka Spruce top with hand shaped Sitka Spruce scalloped braces. Solid maple bridge plate. Booked matched solid Rosewood back and sides. Distinctive and very colorful New Zealand Paua Shell Abalone inlays used on fingerboard, bridge, headstock and the top and sound hole rosette.

 

Unique features: Top edge of body and sound hole Rosette inlaid with colorful New Zealand Paua Shell. Grover gold toned Imperial tuners with stair step buttons with adjustable tension . 1930’s style script logo. Head stock features 4 ply binding. Most SJ-200’s have single ply binding on headstock

 

 

Condition: Excellent. No cracks or repairs. Frets are like new. Minor handling marks you’d expect to see on a guitar that’s been gently played. Strap button added on heel.

 

 

Comments: One of the most ornate Gibson guitars made. The front edge of the body inlaid with colorful abalone. All inlay work done by hand and requires the highest level of craftsmanship. The sound hole has an abalone rosette. This guitar shows Gibson best effort in materials and craftsmanship. Visually stunning.

 

Setup: Just had a professional set up. Frets lightly buffed. Dunlop 65 Ultimate Lemon Oil applied to fingerboard and bridge. Truss rod adjusted. Martin Marquis Phosphor Bronze light gauge .012-.054. The body was cleaned with Virtuoso Premium Cleaner and polished with Virtuoso Premium Polish all by hand. The guitar feels smooth and has a great shine. Always kept at 50% humidity in my smoke free acoustic room. You may prefer to have it set up to suit your personal preference.

Body Style: Super Jumbo

 

Bridge: Handmade moustache-shaped solid figured Indian Rosewood with cutout at bridge ends. 4 pearl ribbon inlays, 2 curved, 2 straight. Aged Bone compensated Saddle. The bridge pin holes are in a slight arc as were the originals in 1937. bone bridge pins with abalone dot inlay.

 

 

Fretboard: Solid Indian Rosewood with pointed end. Rolled edge frets. Single ply binding 12” radius. 20 frets. Joint at 14th fret. Fret board inlay: 8 elegant graduated Mother of Pearl Crowns (pineapple shape) crest featuring multi color multi dimensional appearance. Gibson Montana standard fret wire. The Indian Rosewood is figured with excellent color and stripping.

Pickup: Fishman Ellipse active under saddle pick up. Volume and tone controls in sound hole. BATTERY REMOVED FOR SAFE SHIPPING.

 

 

Body binding: Front 6 ply white-black-white with abalone inlaid around the top. Back 4 ply white-black-white. Heel cap 4 ply. Head stock features 4 ply.

 

 

Top wood: AAA Solid Sitka Spruce with attractive silking, traditional double ring rosette with wide abalone rosette

 

 

Braces: Hand scalloped Sitka Spruce radiused top bracing in X pattern secured with hide glue.

 

 

Back & sides: Solid AAA book matched rosewood. Marquetry strip inlaid in back.

 

 

Neck: Two piece flamed Maple with rosewood stringer. Compound dovetail joint using hide glue. 4 ply white-black-white heel cap

 

 

Truss rod: Single action

 

 

Truss rod cover: Bell shape Black & white inlaid with “Custom”

 

 

Head stock: Black overlay with Old style Script Gibson logo & Crown. 4 ply binding. 17 degree pitch.

 

 

Pick guard: Traditional SJ-200 faux tortoise shell hand-made. Hand engraved & hand painted with cream flower pattern, vines, and 10 abalone dots.

 

 

Scale: 25 ½”

 

 

Case: Deluxe hard shell case with Gibson logo. 6 heavy duty brass latches, 7 brass feet. The case is made from multiple ply’s of wood with an arched top covered in black pebble grain tolex with Gibson logo. Plush purple lining and accessories pocket. Padded handle. The case is extra heavy duty.
