About This Listing

Here we have a beautiful Gibson Les Paul Standard from the Custom Shop.  Made in 2003 in the USA.  Faded Cherry Sunburst finish over a plain maple top.  Big chunky R8 like neck shape.  1 11/16th nut width, 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard with Pearl Trapezoid inlays, and Cream plastics all around. 57 Classic open coil Zebra pickups, Factory Aged hardware with Grover tuners, ABR-1 wired bridge and Stop tailpiece.  Non weight relieved, 9.8 lbs on our digital scale.  We did some digging on this guitar and it appears to be a little bit of a mystery.  Gibson claims that the serial number makes it a Class 5 Plaintop however this guitar does not appear to resemble a Class 5.  Upon some internet digging, there were some folks who said that these were a small run of 40 pieces for Sam Ash Music. This guitar is a solid non weight relieved body, Big chunky neck, open coil 57 classics, Historic style pickup rings, and factory Grovers.  This seems to align with the info from the web.  We are ultimately not 100% sure of this but this makes the most sense.  Gibson doesn't keep the best records when it comes to this sort of thing.
Now for the good stuff.   This guitar plays amazingly well.   Did we mention it has a big neck?  Nice chunky '58 style neck.  This Standard really seems like a '58 Reissue but with factory Grovers.   The guitar has been setup with 10-46's.  The neck is straight and the truss rod is working perfectly.  The frets are in excellent condition with most of their life left in them.  The guitar is in very good to excellent condition.  There are a few dings and small indents.  There is a small ding on the front of the headstock near the High E tuner.  There is a small chip at the bottom of the guitar on the back edge (about the size of a pencil eraser)  There is a gank on the bottom of the guitar near the input jack (see photo) and there is a tiny chip on the inside of the cutaway (see photo)    Some small indents on the back but no major belt buckle rash. Overall the guitar is pretty clean and plays really well.   The guitars with its original Gibson Art and Historic Hard Case. There is no certificate included.
The Gibson Custom shop from the late 90's up until 2003, produced some of their best work.  This one is a fine example of that.   Add it to your collection today!   Thanks for looking and happy buying!
