1950s Kay 2-point Electric Mandolin, Thin Twin pickup, plays perfect! Video.

This is a great-playing 1950s Kay electric mandolin with a killer Thin Twin/Jimmy Reed-style pickup. I picked this up from Jake Wildwood last fall, but it's not fitting in with the acoustic band I play with as well as I had hoped. 

Measurements:

• Scale: 14"
• Body width: 10"
• Depth: 2 1/2"
• Nut width: 1 1/8"

This mandolin has a ply spruce top and ply maple back and sides. It has a compensated, adjustable rosewood saddle and a flat rosewood fretboard with medium frets. Action is spot on at 1/16" with 36w, 26w, 13, and 10 nickel strings. Jake Wildwood did a neck reset on it last year, and the neck is nice and flat.

I didn't do anything to this mandolin except for play it, and that was mostly at the kind of sit-down gigs my band plays. We're basically an acoustic group, and this mandolin sounds a little more like an jazzy archtop/electric sound that wasn't quite right for our music. The Thin Twin pickup sounds **amazing**, so if you are looking for a little jazzy electric mandolin, or something for Western Swing, this is the ticket! It plays great--my loss is your gain!
