The Sweet Sound of '64 describes Gibson's latest masterpiece from the Gibson Custom Shop. When developing this unique guitar, a very special focus was placed on authenticity. The new 1964 ES-335 Reissue should sound like the very best originals from back then, that was the claim. The Gibson Custom Shop has spared no time or effort to achieve this lofty goal. For this purpose, old 335 originals from 1964 were meticulously studied, scanned and analyzed down to the last detail by the experienced guitar builders from the Gibson Custom Shop. Every contour, every profile, every insert and every color nuance of the old vintage models was recorded down to the last detail and transferred to the newly developed models. And wow! The result was one of the finest 1964 ES-335 reissues built to date!
It goes without saying that only selected tonewoods were used when selecting the wood; from premium maple top/back to a "1-Pc." Mahogany neck with dark rosewood fingerboard with historically correct small block inlays. Together with the Custombucker Alnico III pickups, which are exclusively built into CS guitars and come damn close to the sound of the original PAF/Patent No.'s, this is a guarantee for first-class sound quality! And the built-in paper-in-oil capacitors are some of the best electronics you can put on a guitar. All in all, this 1964 reissue ES-335 clearly has vintage genes and is made for use in jazz, blues and rock. Last but not least, the Gibson Custom Shop gave the 1964 ES-335 Reissue the magical mojo of a golden sixties instrument with an authentic VOS "60's Cherry" finish that is second to none! A guitar that you don't want to give up once you've played it!
