About This Listing

Rich, All-Mahogany Tone
Constructed of solid mahogany from the top down, the Martin D-15M is a go-to guitar for any player seeking rich sound and classic looks.

Class Over Flash
The D-15M's dramatically dark look stems from its solid mahogany top with satin finish. Though mahogany is often used to craft a guitar's back and sides, a mahogany top is less common and stands out among other tonewoods for its rich appearance. The D15M features a mahogany back and sides as well as a mahogany neck, giving the guitar a uniform look. Subtlety is the order of the day here; touches like the satin finish, herringbone rosette, Delmar tortoise-color pickguard, and butterbean-shaped tuning machines lend understated elegance to the model.

Naturally Warm Sound
Mahogany is not only noted for its appearance, however. The wood also gives the guitar a warm sound in the midrange and crisp highs. Those guitarists unsatisfied with sharper, brighter tonewoods may find the sound they are looking for in mahogany. If you like the mellow and earthy sound, there is plenty to hear -- as the guitar's sustain is only made stronger by the East Indian rosewood bridge.

An Echo of Martin's History
The D-15M's design -- and name -- hearkens back to the Style 15 Martin guitars from the 1940s. Like those guitars, the D-15M features no binding along the body or neck and no extra ornamentation or electronics that risk changing the tonal character. The neck is joined to the body by a mortise and tenon neck joint, which binds the two pieces with a specialized groove and glue. The top is reinforced through A-Frame X bracing, a technique Martin uses specifically for guitars with mortise and tenon neck joints.
