This upgrade loads the OS extremely fast and allows running the OS 2.0 without loading it from a floppy disk.

In the case of AKAI S2000 machines, the adapter kit is used to have the OS loaded from the flash memory instead of the floppy disk, which leads to immense gains in access time.

However, a functional floppy drive - or a USB Gotek - is still required! The OS will check that the floppy drive is connected and then proceed to load from the flash memory, completely bypassing the floppy disk.

There are ways to get around this requirement, but they involve soldering and in some cases adding resistors and capacitors to emulate a working floppy drive.

--------

The adapter kit contains the socket and the flash memory. It is fully compatible and replaces the original EPROM.

Several adapters can be stacked and used as dual / tri / quad / etc boot or ROM etc by means of a switch.

The adapter is super slim with only 5 mm height and it is a close fit of a DIP32 footprint - about 2 mm larger.

The adapter comes with a 5 way switch which will be used to select the DIP32 mode for read only operations or TSOP32 for read / write / erase operations.

The adapter can be fit with extension pins (0.5 mm - diameter) to lift it, depending on use cases. The extension pins are not delivered with the adapter kit.

Fully compatible with the original EPROM

Low Power Consumption

– Active Current: 5 mA (typical)

– Standby Current: 1 μA (typical)

Superior Reliability

– Endurance: 100,000 Cycles (typical)

– Greater than 100 years Data Retention

Price for one adapter + one IC socket 32 pin.

The adapter chip will be labeled to help you locate the correct chip socket (IC12).

The AKAI S2000 is not for sale, only this adapter.

Be sure to take note of the marked orientation notch on the side of the apadpter to ensure correct installation.

The adapter inserted backwards will be destroyed. Incorrect insertion of ICs is also likely to cause damage to the board.

AKAI S2000 Firmware Update Notes:

1. Take out the mainboard from the case

2. Remove the old EPROM AKAI S2000 - IC12 (AM27C256)

3. Removed(de-solder) the old socket 28-pin - IC12

4. Insert the new IC socket and solder the 32 leads on the wiring side

5. De-solder the JW8 resistor

6. Move the resistor into the JW9 position and solder it in place

!!! ATTENTION !!! The 32-pin EPROM should only be used with the resistor in the JW9 position.

!!! ATTENTION !!! The 28-pin EPROM should only be used with the resistor in the JW8 position.

Otherwise you risk shorting the board.

7. After the soldering insert the adapter in the IC12 socket.

8. Power the device.

Soldering skills are required to remove your old 28-pin socket and resistor and solder in the new 32-pin socket and resistor.
