Classical, modern, elegant: art that makes music. Andrew Mowry’s impeccable design and construction are featured in this unique oval-hole X-braced A-body with an elevated extension neck join at the 14th fret producing a sound Andrew describes as combining the upper string characteristics of f-hole mandolins while G and D strings are similar to traditional Gibson-style oval holes.
The one-piece back and sides are figured red maple with an Adirondack top, finished with French polished varnish in a rich deep wine ‘burst. The rosette is ebony with half-herringbone borders. The ebony fretboard has spilt block MOP inlays and gold Evo fretwire. The exquisite headstock has burl and ebony veneer with an abalone and pearl inlay. Top and sides of the body, neck, headstock and ebony finger rest are double-bound in ebony with white purfling. The tuners are gold Alessis with ebony buttons and the custom deco James tailpiece is engraved with “Mowry.” Lynne Dudenbostel installed an abalone-inlay ebony strap button on the heel. He also stripped the neck finish for a speed feel which was then restained to match by Andrew Mowry.
