About This Listing
This guitar totally destroys! Awesome tone, lightning fast playability, beautiful classic Martin looks, 1970’s Japanese craftsmanship and feels, it’s got the whole package.
Japan in the 70’s was making some epic guitars that rivaled some of the best out there. While Martin and Gibson totally biffed their entire legacy by resting on their laurels and just got worse at everything they did, Japan picked up where they dropped the ball and ran with it. Can’t blame them, if you leave a power vacuum it’s going to get filled. Some new hot shot who actually wants to do a good job will come in and do it, it’s just how it is. The Japanese guitar makers stepped up and made the guitars that the people wanted, like ones that were actually good lol. Not to say all 70’s Martins and Gibsons are bad, there’s some good ones for sure, but in terms of consistency the Japanese ones blew them away. Such is the case with this guitar, it’s awesome. It rules. It’s the Martin that Martin probably couldn’t have made at the time.
As an instrument, this thing rocks. Neck is straight as an arrow, action is low and vibrant, tone is huge (very Joni/Neil Young), feels great and inspiring to play, and it has all the epic natural and attractive play wear that tells you it was a joy to play. Structurally it’s rock solid, not a single crack or separation anywhere to be found. It’s a heavily and well built guitar that can take a beating. I have a similar 70’s Japanese Martin copy guitar that I use for traveling, and I ended up recording with it because I love it so much and it has such a comfortable and well played vibe. It’s a killer guitar with all the feels.
Someone put enclosed tuners on which are nice, the back of the headstock maybe isn’t the most attractive part of the guitar to look at, but the whole thing about this guitar is just about function. It plays like a dream, sounds awesome, and totally rules. Everyone needs a great guitar like this in their life, one that’s been played so you can just enjoy it without stressing about condition. Great guitar!
