This is a Polytone Baby Brute. No other amplifiers sound like a Polytone. These highly sought after amplifiers don't come up for sale that often. This one may be the first Baby Brute ever made. There is no
serial number. It could be the prototype for the Baby Brute model. That would mean it was played by Joe Pass. He was one of the financial backers and developers at Polytone. This amp has a story as to how it has changed hands over the years (I couldn't verify it), but was told that it belonged to the drummer for The Tonight Show band from 1963 to 1992 (Ed Shaugnessy), and that it was used by show's guests to rehearse. It may have been given to him by Joe Pass. The timeline makes sense. I have owned it for a few years. Here is the good news. Everything works fine and it is in excellent condition for a 40-45 year old amp. This is a reliable amp that is ready to gig with. This amplifier has that organic Polytone sound. Many people agree that the Baby Brute was the best sounding amplifier that the Polytone company ever made, and this example sounds great. You may not see another one anytime soon, and certainly none with this kind of mojo. This amp has always lived in the San Fernando Valley where it was made (North Hollywood). I plug it in and play it every now and then. I have used it as a bass amp in intimate settings, and as a guitar amp in jazz trio and solo situations. It is small, easy to carry, and reliable. I've kept it because I just liked having it in my collection. Now it's time to send this sweet sounding amp to a jazz player that wants that authentic, real deal, Polytone sound. This amp works perfectly, and it will be checked and double checked before I pack it.
I have perfect feedback and ship quickly and carefully.
Thanks for looking.
