This listing is for a used (light average wear - looks good for its age) 1970s Ventura Dreadnought HS Case for 6 or 12 string acoustic guitar (NO guitar included). Black tolex exterior / gold thin velour interior / wood construction / chrome hardware - but it has discoloration.

It is kind of similar to a chip board case - but stronger - made with wood (light medium duty kind of HS Case). A lot more protective that a chipboard case.  The caliper reading that I got for the thinckness of the case outer part to inner thin plush material is .40 of an inch.  Converted to a fraction is 2/5. Therefore the thichness of the case is slightly less than a 1/2 an inch.

  • If you are looking at this case and know what it is  -- then you probably are familiar with it and familiar about how it is made.

INTERIOR MEASUREMENTS:
  • DEPTH of area where guitar is placed in (not counting the lid):  4 and 1/2 inches
  • FULL LENGTH:  42 and 1/2 inches
  • Body Section LENGTH: 23 and 1/2 inches
  • Body Section Width (shoulder / upper area): 12 and 3/4 inches
  • Body Section Width (waist / mid area): 12 and 1/8 inches
  • Body Section Width (hip / lower area): 16 and 7/8 inches

EXTERIOR MEASUREMENTS:
  • DEPTH:  6 and 1/4 inches
  • FULL LENGTH:  43 and 1/2 inches
  • Body Section Width (shoulder /  upper area):  13 inches
  • Body Section Width (waist / mid area): 12 and 3/4 inches
  • Body Section Width (hip / lower area): 17 and 1/2 inches
This HS Case - will fit other brand Dreadnought body type acoustic guitars. Please refer to the interior measurement provided above. But - to be honest -  you are better off buying a different brand new or used Dread HS Case for less elsewhere.

I am not the original owner of the HS Case.  I've had if for about 5 years [it was pair with a used Alvarez dreadnought acoustic guitar (go figure??) that I got a few years ago]. NO guitar included.

This HS Case  was always in safe storage in my home. And it looks like the previous owner(s) took very good care of it. When I got it it did smell kind of old-ish (that weird old smell) - so every so often I would one or two boxes of baking soda in the case  (baking soda is an odor absorbent) and that did the trick of getting rid of the old-ish smell. I also aired it outside in the spring and summer of 2021.  Now is smells fine. You would not have known that it ever had this issue. NOTE: I did spray vanilla air freshener in it - therefore it has a nice smell.

And aside from putting the black shoe polish on the exterior tolex (which I describe below)  I rarely handled it.

NOTE: Also - I have been humidifying it by putting Damp-Its and Humidi-paks in it (these items are NOT included).

This HS Case was mostly fine to start with  (with a little less than light average wear) - not counting the visible imperfections on the hardware (latches, hinges, etc).

Cosmetic Condition Details --

EXTERIOR TOLEX: see below

Th EXTERIOR TOLEX has only has a couple of nicks and small cuts/ breaks on / in it  --  I MENTION WHERE THEY ARE in the next 4 lines:
  • FRONT SIDE: the lower edge of the front side (meaning when the HS Case is in the upright position -  the front lower edge -  butt end of body area).
  • BACK SIDE:  the lower edge of the front side (meaning when the HS Case is in the upright position - the front lower edge - butt end of body area).
The back side of the tolex also has some not too serious light scratches.
The other areas of the tolex are fine.

NOTE:  Since I was kind of bored and since this HS Case has some light scuffs (mostly on the bottom (wide back) side, some small white marking here & there, and the black tolex was a little dull -- I decided to use KIWI black shoe polish (liquid kind with the sponger applicator head) to make the exterior of this HS case look a lot cleaner and for it to have a nice even light Black gloss finish. Basically to make it look the TOLEX look nice.
  • So far I did the front and outer sides (meaning the areas around the case).  And I plan to do the bottom side tomorrow (after the other sides dry good).
STITCHING: It is intact. It has some aging / instead of white it is off white. Some areas might be light gray.

INTERIOR: see below

Overall the INTERIOR is clean - especially for its age):
  • The under-side of the LID has the impressions of the strings and the is some visible  but not too serious- discoloration (from the strings) at the neck / fretboard area.   This discoloration does not accurately show up in the pictures  -- but you can kind of see it in person.  I'll leave it up to you to clean (if you decide to clean the discoloration).  It is nothing extreme.
  • The material itself is mostly fine. Just some things to point out for the lower body area:   The butt area of the body section has some long to medium length line impressions (some people might call them scuffs) and a few small spot impressions / scuffs. The lower right body area and some flattening.  And the bottom center (butt end) body area has visible strap button wear (like a small hole and small  impression. SEE picture # 14.
  • Honestly I am very impressed that the interior (and even the exterior tolex ) of a HS case this age looks as good as it does. It is a winner!! With the exception that the outer hardware has discoloration and rust...read details below.
  • The ACCESSORIES COMPARTMENT (and ITS LID) and the and NECK REST are still intact (securely attached to the case and function fine / properly.
RIBBON for keeping the lid in the upright position - Overall it clean, its mostly fine. It has light - but visible wear on the edges & some of the outer areas.

RIBBON with the Ventura logo is clean, its fine- very light wear.

HARDWARE --- see below

LATCHES: They function properly. They do not use a lock. There is NO lock. The chrome color is very dull and has noticeable discoloration (oxidation rust - orange & brown color) & tiny rust spots.

HANDLE: It functions properly. It's clean / fine.

HARDWARE for the HANDLE (the hinges and the oval plates / rivets): Function fine. Cosmetically they have noticeable  discoloration  - instead of the normal chrome color - they are brownish color from rust and oxidation.   The oval pieces are slightly apart from the case --  but the rivets  are on good and the rivets are still securing the oval plates and the hinges of the handles on the case. Just a small gap in between the oval plates and the case.

HINGES:  The function properly.  NOTE:   the lower half of the far latch is slightly apart for the case - but it still on the case (really not a big deal and you might not even notice this since what I just mentioned does not affect how the lid open and closes).  The chrome color is dull and has discoloration oxidation, and tiny and very small rust spots.

FEET are fine - some discoloration.

METAL BUMPER (on butt end):  The chrome color is dull and has discoloration oxidation, and tiny and very small rust spots.

If you are a handy person and if you are very patient - you can carefully used steel wool, sandpaper,  and / or other types of rust removers to clean and restore the hardware.

In case you are wondering  - I do not have any Ventura acoustic guitars.

Feel free to ask for more pictures of this item. Feel free to ask questions.

NOTE:  There are some imperfections that can be seen in person that do not appear in the pictures. There may be some imperfections that I overlooked.  And - there maybe some imperfections show up in the pictures that are not that visible in person (such as:  glares, reflections, dust specks).

  • Will Ship World Wide (with USPS Priority Mail International).   If you do not see a shipping /packaging cost for your location (or if it is $175 USD) - please contact me me for the shipping / packaging cost - it might be lower.

  • USA buyers please contact me before buying the item for a more accurate s/p cost.
  • In most situations - the shipping carrier that I will be using for USA (states and territories) is USPS. But if I can get a better s/p cost another carrier - such as UPS or FedEx - then I will.
  • Since the s/p cost varies  (depending on location) - I put a general cost of $167 (which is the price for me shipping it to California, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska using USPS Ground). But for many USA locations the s/p cost will be lower than $167. EXAMPLE - the s/p cost to ship to NJ / NY will cost about $56 / $66.  Therefore I can edit this s/p cost.
  • The shipping  / packaging cost is based on the location it is going to, the weight, and size of the package  --  plus the packaging cost.
  • I live in New Jersey - therefore - please keep in mind that the s/p cost for a coast to coast shipment will be high for USPS Priority Mail - therefore I recommend that you use USPS Ground or UPS Ground.
