About This Listing

For sale I have a 1981 Greco Spacey Sound SE500 S-style guitar in two-tone sunburst finish. I purchased this from a reputable brick-and-mortar dealer on Reverb in 2020 and it has predominantly been kept at my home, although it was used in studio a couple of times.

This is from the famed Fujigen factory in Japan, during its glory years of production from the late 70's through mid 80's. If you're looking at this, you probably already know how great these instruments are, and this one is no exception.

Guitar features a really nice two-tone sunburst finished ash body with maple neck and rosewood fretboard. There's some really nice grain throughout the finish on both the front and back. And even though I believe guitars from this era were sprayed in polyurethane finish, you can feel the grain of the wood through the finish on the back side of the guitar, so I'm guessing the finish must have been applied very minimally.

It's truly a fantastic playing guitar. I have another Greco strat-style in my collection that I find myself reaching for, so this one doesn't get enough love. I hope to send this to someone else who will give it the playing time it deserves.

As far as I am aware it is completely stock aside from the couple of mods I made to it. I replaced the 3 way switch with a 5 way and upgraded the pickups to a matched set of Bootstrap Golden Ale pickups. This was predominantly done because my house has older wiring so I wanted something that would give me noise cancelling in the 2 and 4 positions. The original pickups and 3 way switch are included in the sale, if you decide you'd rather bring it back to stock. The Bootstrap pickups sound great however, so I doubt you'll feel the need to take them out.

Guitar does have blemishes with some knicks, dings, paint chips (which I did my best to photograph). It is a 40 year old guitar afterall. It's clearly been taken care of, but not babied throughout its life. Frets are great though. There's some mild fret wear, but it really is very minimum for its age. Neck plays great with no buzzing or fret issues anywhere on the fretboard.

Also comes with a basic but nice aftermarket case which I purchased myself for the guitar + the original tremolo arm, which screws into the bridge. The following description of the neck is taken from the original listing where I purchased the guitar...

"The guitar weighs 8lbs...The maple neck has a slender, soft V profile carve near the nut, filling out with a bit more shoulder to a modestly rounder C shape in the higher registers, measuring .805” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th...This Greco adheres to traditional Fender spec with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, 25 1/2" scale, and 1 5/8" nut width."

All told, it's a great instrument and would make a fine addition to someone's collection. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Thanks!
