Gibson Leland Sklar Signature bass. This bass was built only for one year between 1998-1997 by Mike McGuire in the Gibson Custom Shop. It was reminiscent of the Fender Precision Bass with a double cutaway maple body, and bolt-on maple neck with 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. The headstock has an unusual bevel around the edge. The scale length is 34 inches. This model had chrome hardware and two precision style EMG split-coil pickups, volume/blend/tone controls. It came in two colors: either ebony or sunburst. The bass has has Hip Shot tuners and D-tuner, allowing the bottom E string to be quickly dropped to a D. The recommended retail price, when new, was over $2000.
This is a collectable bass. What makes this particular bass extra special that it was also personally signed in 2006 by Leland Sklar. The EMG active pickups were replaced with passive APC USA pickups. The bridge was also upgraded with the 2 Tek bridge that has independent sadles. It also has a brass nut. Back of the neck has a nice tiger maple figuring.
The bass is in excellent condition with no issues, but could use a set up. It will be shipped in a SKB hardcase. I purchased this bass from an estate sale in San Diego area from a collector who was a Leland Sklar fan. Also purchased A Kramer Ferrington acoustic bass, that was sign by Leland Sklar, and is listed separately on this site. I will include a Bass Frontiers magazine with Leland Sklar on the cover, that was also signed.
Thanks for looking.
