The original Strat had three single coil pickups, but the American Series HSS substitutes a hot Fender Diamondback humbucker in the bridge position. This allows you to quickly dial in a screaming fat lead sound. And thanks to the two custom staggered Tex-Mex single coil pickups, you also get instant access to all the classic, glossy Strat tones with a simple flick of the five-position blade switch.

But there's more here than meets the eye! By simply pushing down on the volume control, you can access the bold new sounds available thanks to Fender's exclusive new S-1 switching. This gives you incredible new pickup combinations like the inside coil of the bridge pickup paired in series with the neck pickup and in parallel with the middle pickup. Fast Playing Natural Maple Neck
Leo Fender wasn't afraid to "think outside the box" when it came to guitar designs. In the 1950s and well into the 1970s, the blond natural maple neck became almost synonymous with Fender guitars. The American Deluxe Strat keeps the fast playing maple neck and fingerboard with a 9.5-inch radius, but in keeping with contemporary player preferences, the modern "C" shaped neck is finished in a smooth satin polyurethane.
