Marathon (Samick) MG20MBK guitar ~1988 HSS Superstrat

Welcome to another fine guitar from The Old Europe! Please make sure to read the entire description below carefully, and look at all the pictures.

General introduction and background:

Super nice and rare Marathon guitar, the model is: MG20MBK. Marathon was the musical instruments brand of Musik Meinl, a German distribution company which, amongst other things, distributes Ibanez instruments in Germany. Meinl previously owned the “Life” brand, for which they commissioned guitars from Samick in South Korea – hence I deduce that the guitar we have here was also made by Samick, and some Marathon models were clearly. It may not be clearly visible in the pictures, but the finish is metallic black sparkle, not pitch black.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-     Scale: 648 mm

-     Nut: 40,5 mm

-     Weight: 3,98 kg

-     Pickups: HSS pickup layout, humbucker in the bridge (at ~8,5 kOhm), two single coils in middle and neck, both at ~8,2 kOhm. The humbucker can be splitted. Master volume and tone, 5 way switch

-     Body: multilayer wood

-     Neck: maple, maple fingerboard, flat radius, medium frets

Condition:

-     Body: good condition, some beltbuckle rash on the back, some hazy scratches on the front.

-     Neck: straight neck, good frets (8/10), the trussrod works, no buzz or fretting out

-     Electronics: all functional as it should be

-     Hardware: fully functional, minor traces of corrosion

-     Originality: Fully original. The setting keys which had been attached to the back of the head are missing, but any standard set of inbus keys will do.

Sound and Playability:

-     Playability and string action: The guitar plays easily with a string action of 1,5 mm at the 12th fret. Slim neck

-     Sound: surprisingly versatile as the humbucker doesn’t yield a metal/hardrock output, but rather PAF style, and the single coils also sound bold and gorgeous. Please have a listen to the video were I try and put the guitar through its paces

-     Extensive cleaning

-     Extensive polishing and caring for the fretboard

-     New 10 gauge strings put on

-     Completely set up

-     Ready to be played (just tune it up)

Auxiliary stuff:

-     No case included. It will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material.

AFTER DELIVERY: After receiving the item, please inspect the package for obvious damages and make photos if there are any. After unpacking, check the item immediately for damages or other undocumented flaws. I accept a 14 days return and will pay for shipping if the item is in a different condition than described upon arrival. Please note that I will only take the item back entirely, but not grant any reduction of price and generally only accept returns if the item was unaltered after arrival.

CITES protection: all of the items I sell have been legally imported to the EU before January 1st 2017 and are registered with the authorities in Hamburg, Germany (if applicable).
