About This Listing

A Rare Wurlitzer student model 146B retrofitted with a Retrolinear EP200A amplifier.

The 140B is one of the most sought after Wurlitzers, alongside the 200 and 200A's. This is the point where Wurlitzer finally got it right. The 140B shares the same great action and reeds as the 200 series. The previous version 140, 140A, 145, 145A's have different reeds that just don't have the same bark and bite, they also have slightly more primitive amps and are also prone to reed screw cracking issues and dull notes. The 140B has the superior action, only slightly revised for the 200 series to be more compact for fitment into the plastic lids. Many prefer the feel and sound of the 140B over the 200 series.

This piano has been overhauled with all new wiring and electronics. The amplifier is enclosed in an aluminum chassis for protection, and has also been wired to accept 120V or 230V by reversing the fuse holder on the power receptacle. A power cord for both American use (IEC 320 C13/C14) as well as European (CEE 7/7) are included. Operating voltage setting is easily visible on the power receptacle, and is the responsibility of the buyer for proper setting.

The 146B is identical to the 140B with the exception of the amplifier configuration and other wiring for teacher/student communication. Vibrato circuitry was present, but the performance of the amplifier was unsatisfactory. The amplifier has been replaced with a new Retrolinear EP200A, complete with vibrato and an FX loop. Both Speaker Out and Aux Out are located on the back of the amplifier, as well as a Speaker shutoff switch. The pilot light has been replaced with an LED.

***Variable vibrato can be installed for an additional fee. It can be installed in place of the FX loop jack (above the vibrato knob).

The legs are new reproduction chrome legs. The original wooden legs were not present, but the original wooden legs are incredibly wobbly by nature; no comparison to sturdy steel legs. The sustain pedal is a new reproduction by Vintage Vibe, tweaked for use with the 140 series.

The action was completely regulated including a fresh tuning and voicing of the reeds, and key leveling.

The back cutouts have been replaced with the original connector housing, with contacts removed. A custom black plastic screen is in place, protecting the insides from large debris. The cutouts also act as hand holds for transporting.

The video was record via the "Aux Output”
