Here is a used (that casing has a little less than light average wear & the back side has some orange stains & rust spots // the rubber on the bottom plate has some surface scuffs) BOSS DC-3 Digital Dimension (Digital Stereo Chorus). BLUE Label JAPAN. From 1988.  This is an early model DC-3 made in June 1988 (the DC-3 pedal was released in March 1988).

According to the instruction (SEE link below) - the DC-3 pedal  can be used with guitar, bass, or keyboard.

NOTE: I rarely do this for pedals that I sell - but I fee that the BOSS DC-3 need something to bring to your attention:
Therefore - I would like to point out that this is not an in your face Digital Chorus effect pedal. It is on the subtle side - you hear the chorus effect  - but is it very extreme.  It is clean, airy, and adds dimension kind of chorus effect.  Sounds better in stereo. Therefore - it might not be the correct chorus effect for some people.   There is nothing wrong with the pedal - it is just the way it is designed.  If you do take this pedal or if you are considering  buying this pedal (whether from me or from another seller)   - I would suggest:

  • 1)  Using it with a power supply (so you get a constant power juice) instead of a 9v battery  - which I feel that this pedal  drain fast.  But it does work fine with a 9v battery.
  • 2)  For you to experiment with the pedal with different setting and if possible different guitars / amps..  This pedal might works shine better with some gear than with other gear.  The INSTRUCTIONS (which is in a link below)  has some sample settings  - but you might feel the need to tweak the controls setting to get the effect you prefer).  There is nothing wrong with the pedal - it is just the way it is designed.
  • 3) This Chorus effect sounds better in STEREO (with two amps)  than it does in MONO (with one amp).
  • 4) To pass on getting the DC-3 and go for a different chorus effect pedal if you want one that has a better range of chorus effects and / or  chorus effects that are more noticeable.  Or if you are looking for a chorus pedal that kind sounds a chorus tremolo effect.
  • 5) Please do research, read reviews, see / hear demos (esp on You Tube).
In case you are wondering - there is / are NO internal trim pot(s).

Comes with the box and a 9 battery. Also--

*** I am including one new set of D'Addario EXL-110 light (gauge 10) electric guitar strings. Please let me know if you prefer D'Addario EXL-120 extra light (gauge 9) strings instead of the gauge 10 strings ***

The selling price will be $2 less if you do not need the battery, $3 less if you do not need the strings ($3), and $5 less if you do not need the box. Please make an offer with a message stating that you do not need these items. You can also message me if you prefer that these details be edited in listing.

Sorry NO paperwork.

Here is a link for the INSTRUCTIONS (definitely check it out - it has a couple of recommended setting samples / examples):

  • Entered Serial:   917046
  • Your pedal was made in Jun, 1988 (June 1988)

The pedal is several years old and it was used - therefore -- it has imperfections

Th CASING has a couple of nicks, chis and scratches -in general -  nothing extreme.  Not al of these imperfection are visible in the pictures - but they can be seen in person. The back side has some yellow discoloration - as well as - some very small / tiny rust formations in / on the finish.

The TOP BLACK PLATE(where the controls are has a not too long / not too short hair-line scratch in the finish  on the upper left area. And has a few tiny & very small dings / nicks (most are on the top edge).

The RUBBER PIECE on the Top Side has light wear on the edges and it has light wear on the BOSS logo.

The pedal has all of the knobs.  The knobs are fine.

The hardware (nuts / washers / outer edges of the jacks) are mostly are very clean - just a few very tiny nicks.

The grommet (the oval rubber piece in the front screw hole) is fine - very light wear.

The small label / sticker with the serial number (in the battery compartment) has minor aging and very light surface imperfections

The rubber on the bottom plate has some light -  but visible -  scuffs, a little bit of cloudiness (from the scuffs), and it has hardened a little from age & use.

The bottom label is mostly fine.  It just has a few small and very small air bubbles.

  • The controls are: E. Level (effect level), EQ,, RATE, and DEPTH
  • The jacks are: Input, Output A (MONO), Output B (STEREO), and Power

The BOX -
  • Each side of the outer LID part has some (or a few) mostly light small & very small dot & line impressions.
  • The outer bottom part of the bottom side of the box has many brown, gray, and black markings (discoloration) several small & very small round impressions, and some very short & short line impressions.

I took pictures of all sides of the pedal.  There are several pictures of the inside of the pedal.  And the first pictures shows what it comes with.  Please message me if you only want to buy the pedal or if you would like to buy the pedal with certain items presented in this listing.

Feel free to ask for more pictures.

NOTE:   There may be some imperfections that I overlooked.   There are some imperfections that can be seen in person that do not appear in the pictures.  Also  - there are some imperfections (glares, reflections, dust specks) that show up in the pictures that are not that visible in person.

the following is information on this model pedal (the info below was taken from this website):

  • bossarea.com/dc-3-digital-dimension/

The DC-3 is the successor of the Dimension C (DC-2) pedal but it’s still quite different. The DC-3 is a digital device while the DC-2 was an analog pedal. The DC-3 doesn’t have the presets of the DC-2 but instead you can adjust the sound with the controls common to the other Boss chorus pedals.

Version differences
  • The name of the DC-3 was changed to “Digital Space-D” on later versions. The Digital Space-D was only sold in Japan
Boss Pocket Dictionary vol.6 (1989):

The DC-3 Digital Dimension is a new dimension effects unit which is totally digital, giving you clear, high quality dimensional sounds with perfect two-phase synchronization based on digital modulation. With chorus effects superior to those produced by conventional chorus effects, and which even surpass professional rack-mount units, this fully digital dimension unit provides 4 manual setting controls which let you create and custom-tailor over-whelmingly expansive effects with extremely accurate signal response.

Using the DC-3
  • Unlike chorus effects, which adds vibrato as you increase the amount of effect on the signal, the DC-3’s Digital dimension effect is spacious and natural-sounding with very little wavering, resulting in a more accurate, expansive feel.
  • A wide range of dimension effects can be achieved by adjusting the Effect Level, Equalizer, Rate and Depth controls. For chorus effects, change the balance for Rate and Depth.
  • The following control seting (E.Level 6, EQ 4, Rate 4, Depth 4) is most often used dimension sound, which enhances both solo and rhythm playing.
  • This setting  (E.Level 8, EQ 5, Rate 0, Depth 8) adds distortion, resulting in the thick chorus-type sound or the effect obtained using a harmonizer. This setting is ideal for fattening up a rhythm guitar part over a medium-tempo hard rock piece.
  • Please note that the DC-3 must be set after distortion or overdrive effects near the end of the effects chain (like the chorus unit and volume pedal).
