In 1937, Gibson introduced the soon-to-be-dubbed "King of the Flat-Tops" - the J-200 (also known as the SJ-200), and it was quickly picked up by Hollywood star Ray Whitley. As the years went by, it was adapted by Rock and Roll pioneers such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and onto players such as Pete Townshend and Bob Dylan because of its great looks, and the wonderful projection of tone from the jumbo body size.
75 years later, we now have the Gibson 75th Anniversary J-200 Quilt, adorned with features both cosmetic and functional to make it one gorgeous instrument. The 75th Anniversary J-200 Quilt is built with a sitka spruce top on unbelievable pieces of quilt maple for the back and sides, a double-ring rosette, a beautifully crafted mustache rosewood bridge with abalone inlays, and loaded with L.R. Baggs Element electronics for an amplified tone that sounds just as good as the acoustic tone. This run of 75th Anniversary SJ-200's in Sunset Burst finish is limited to only 75 instruments worldwide.
