Here's a very rare Valco-made Supro tube combo from circa 1947-8. It is especially difficult to find one of these in clean condition, since the outer covering is pretty thin and easy to mess up.
The 2 tone brown is a classic look, and the single volume control is all you need when the amp sounds as good as this one. A 3 prong grounded ac cord has been installed, and electrolytic caps have been updated as shown. The speaker appears to be original and is in great shape with one small cone repair.
The power transformer has the code 138713 (probably 1947). The serial number is on a small metal plate on the back (# V11785, which indicates circa 1948).
The tubes are two 6V6 power tubes, one 5Y3 GT rectifier, and one 6SL7 WG preamp tube. The tone is very rich and somewhat cleaner than a Fender amp. It is a great platform for pedals, but I like to just plug straight in.
No issues with operation or sound. It is remarkably quiet for a vintage amp.
These old Valco-made amps have a lot of fans, and it's easy to understand why. Great classic looks, compact size, and great tone. What more do you need?
