Tym Guitars Big Mud Violet Rams Head

A truly stellar v2 Rams Head Big Muff which utilizes BC108 transistors...these are pretty scarce and always sell out within minutes if you can find one at all. Of all the Violets I've tried (which is quite a few and including some originals), this one is hands down the best. The BC108's impart a little something extra to my ears, a great complexity tonewise. Yet it is very clear and articulate...beautiful singing leads, but still excellent for riffing and chordwork. These are my handmade, hand wired clones of an old school sustain/fuzz made around '73/74 that has been nicknamed the "Violet Rams head" by many, but with a few little twists. I have used NOS "tin can" BC108's for the transistors giving a little "fizzle" in the top end. This version of the original BM had slightly less gain but way more "harmonics" than later models and re-issues and this one is still lower gain but higher than my standard RH with more mids. The circuit is mainly based on the classic "version 2 Violet" and is housed in my hand made stainless steel enclosures.

These are full sounding fuzz with a less pronounced mid sccop and more output than some others in the series. Check my blog for more details.
