This is Motown Funk Brothers Dennis Coffeys Guitar used on Marvin Gaye's "I want you" among many others including the Temptations, Martha Reeves, Ringo Starr, Quincy Jones, Jackson 5 and the Dramatics. The guitar comes with signed documentation, list of songs played on it, some hand written charts and picks all from the Funk Brother. Really a piece of music history, very clean, sounds and plays amazing!
Dennis Coffey -
When I moved to LA and started doing sessions out there, I still had my Gibson Firebird guitar. I used my Firebird for a while and noticed that a lot of the guitarists were using Gibson 335s. One day I decided to buy a 335 to use on sessions in LA but bought a used 345 instead. That guitar was in stereo so I had my guitar tech take out the stereo gear and make it mono. He also added a pickup phase switch to my guitar so I could switch my pickups out of phase which made the guitar sound like a Fender with single coil pickups. I used that guitar in LA and also used it when I moved back to Detroit.
Later I took off the pickup covers to get a brighter sound on gigs and sessions. I finally decided to put the pickup covers back on to get the guitar to sound like Gibson intended it to sound.
