One-of-a-kind Stars Guitars Leo Knapp / Dan Ransom Rare Custom Modulus 1980’s

What an absolutely stunning guitar! This guitar was made in the early 1980’s by Stars Guitars. They were a small California shop with designer Leo Knapp (known for his work with Neal Schon (Journey) and the co-designer of the Yamaha Pacifica guitar) and master builder Daniel Ransom who is still building custom guitars today! The body shape is similar to the Jackson-made Schon guitars that were heavily influenced by Leo as well. Leo built many prototypes for Neal and other artists. Leo told me that he designed this guitar and Danny built it. It features a set of rare active Reflex pickups and a hollow carbon fiber neck by Modulus! Modulus was just getting off the ground at that time as well and they were right up the street from Stars, breaking new ground by using carbon fiber for guitar necks!

This guitar was in the hands of a Japanese Neal Schon collector for many years on the believe that it was a Schon prototype, which it technically isn’t but you can definitely see the design similarity! See last pic to compare with a Jackson Schon.

The paint is gorgeous and just sparkles like new. The Tremelo is from Kahler USA and the tuners are Schaller. The serial number is hand etched into the headstock and neck plate. You definitely won’t find another one of these anywhere! The guitar plays and sounds amazing, the pickups are great as well!

There is some wear visible on the back of the neck but it is still smooth and fast, some moderate fret wear. Aside from that it presents in near mint condition with no notable issues. A collector’s dream!
