Let me introduce you to Fernande, a ravishing Japanese lady, near spot-on copy of a pre-EB Music Man Stingray (strings not going through the body being the most noticeable difference).
Fernande is a SB-85, from the Master Hand series. There is no serial number, but I checked, this model only features in the 1983 and 84 catalogues.
She is in a very good state, with a gorgeous veneer fingerboard. Neck is chunky but not huge. Truss rod works well. A few bumps and bruises, nothing serious. Strings are dead! The bushing for the D string is missing; I was afraid it would make tuning more difficult and less stable, but this is not the case, no problem there.
I do not have a clue why someone put "1126" near the bridge (his or her 1126th bass?).
Her previous owner changed the preamp to a John East 2-band MMRS, which I find too modern for my taste (very bright, lots of highs). Of course I have the original preamp.
Fernande behaves like a Stingray should. She has character and presence.
So why am I selling Fernande? Well, she was my first attempt at a Stingray (I've been a Precision guy since 1990), and the attempt was so successful that now I want a Music Man. If I had kept Fernande, I would have put the old preamp back in and found a new bushing for the D string.
The video was made by the previous owner, you will find a couple of other videos with this bass on his channel.
Please note that no case or gig bag is included, only a leather strap with straplocks, and the original preamp. Shipping will be made according to Japanese standards, with great care and lots of padding.
