BBC AMC/2 Valve Microphone Amplifiers x 2

A rare opportunity to purchase 2 x BBC AMC/2 valve mic amps made from WWII bullet boxes. Amazing sounding with a fast, detailed response. Inside is a huge input transformer (turns ratio approx 1:30) and an equally as large AC/SP3 valve. On the lowest gain setting of 30dB the valve is bypassed completely and audio runs through pretty much the transformer alone, this makes for a quick, detailed, punchy sound. Higher gain settings of 40dB and 50dB introduce the valve and all the wonderful warmth that comes with it.

I’ve had excellent results using these over a mix after a passive EQ like a Thermionic Culture Pullet to bring the gain back up by the necessary 40dB. It’s a great sound. If a vocalist/mic combination produces too bright a sound, try one of these instead of your usual Neve, API etc to smooth the top end slightly. Excellent for anything with fast transients, kick and snare for example.

Great sounding mic amps that add a personality and three dimensional quality to any recording. You never see them for sale individually, let alone as a pair.

External power supply includes XLR in and out, alternatively use the GPO connections on the front of the mic amps themselves.
