Trident Series 80C

This is a great example of Trident's most commercially successful console, the 80C. 32 Channel X 24 Bus 24 Monitor returns.

If you're looking at this listing, you know what these are. They were improved from the Series 80B which was greatly improved from the first Series 80.

This sale includes the console wiring which took a few weeks to make for this console. It was impeccably put together and is all labeled and even comes with a layout notebook.

The sale does not include the 3 lower bays which are used for our outboard, mic lines, and headphone system. Or anything else in the photos like speakers etc. 

The C solved some issues with the B. Like having EQ's on the monitor section and rearranging the faders to be a straight 24 instead of a stacked 12 on 12. 

The monitor section also has an A and a B input. With all of these combined with the 32 channels of the console, it has 72 inputs. 

One common "dislike" of the 80C was that the remix sections were replaced with 5534 chips instead of the transistors like there were on the 80B. This one however has the transistors. Someone either added them and removed the 5534's or this was a very early C and they were still implementing the B remix sections.

Either way, as a mixing console this thing rocks. It is clear as a bell. I've never had a mix I was disappointed with and I run a commercial studio as well as produce/mix/engineer my own records.

A lot of guys also complain of the head room and upgrade power supplies. This supply was recapped under a decade ago and needs no work. It is great. The supplies were made for these boards. They were made to work with them. Actually upgrading a supply or increasing voltages will do nothing for this console. A lot of guys like to change the chips out for Burr Browns, then a power supply upgrade is needed. This is to compensate for the difference in voltage. But those Burr Brown chips quiet this board down and to me honestly take away what the Series 80 consoles really are.

This board has partially been recapped in places like the Remix section and a few other integral spots. We tested a sweep through every channel of the console and everything was perfectly within range. 

All of the remix, pan, phase, and eq engage switches have been replaced with new shadow switches. 

This board is special. It has lived at Boulevard Recording (the old Producers Workshop) in Hollywood CA (where Pink Floyd recorded The Wall) for the past 5 years. Some interesting and useful mods were also done to this board by Stephen Haselton (renowned tech known for work at The Mastering Lab)

1. The buffer was removed from the Remix section of the board cleaning up the signal path.

2. The buffer was removed from the outboard patchbay built within the console to clean up the signal path.

3. An unfinished mod, the 80 Series Tridents all had Phantom power within the inside of the channel strip. This is very inconvenient. You have to pull the channel out of the console and flip the switch. 8 of the channels were modded to utilize a toggle switch on the top of the channels near the remix buttons. As for the rest of the console, it just takes some soldering. The switches are already mounted to the face of the channels.

4. The main remix section of the console was recapped. 

I've mixed records with Steve Lillywhite on this console and they sounded fantastic! I highly doubt anyone would think otherwise. 

Issues:

1. The monitor section would not hurt from a recap (but only a few channels actually show any evidence of needing a recap)

2. The meter lamps are mostly dead (easy afternoon to fix).

3. The armrest could use a reupholster because it was ripped when the board was moved in. There's gaff tape covering the rips. 

All in all this board is fantastic and is perfect for any size studio. It would be a plug and go situation. This thing is working every single day. Feel free to ask for more detailed photos. I have them.
