The Model 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator introduces several innovative techniques for dealing with complex timbres. It features voltage controlled modulation of pitch, amplitude and timbre, multi-dimensional voltage-control of timbre space, phase locking, automatic tuning, and (simultaneous or separate) local (front panel) and remote (digital) control of all functions.
The Model 259, known as the Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, is a dual oscillator consisting of one principal oscillator and one modulation oscillator which utilizes an internal modulation bus capable of Amplitude Modulation, Frequency Modulation, Timbre Modulation and Phase Locked Loop - PLL for short - of external signals. The Timbre and Waveshaping section is attached to the principal oscillator, which is the primary tone generator, although the modulation oscillator will produce audio rate waves if needed. Each oscillator has its own individual Keyboard input (1.2v/oct), in addition to, two separate FM inputs for each. An array of output choices for both, in addition to several other clever features make this a shoe-in as the the main oscillator for any DON B oriented 4U system.
