"Of course, this is not a Dumble and the script Logo on the front does not have the “By Dumble” (but this amplifier is certainly better sounding than many original Dumble ODS heads I have had).
Back in 2002 I was a Two Rock dealer and since I had bought and sold so many original Dumble amplifiers, and Bill had repaired and worked on many Dumble amps, Bill and I discussed having a small, exclusive run of amplifiers we would call “Overland Express Overdrive Special” heads that he would build which would replicate but improve on Dumble-like tones. If I remember correctly, Bill made this particular amp for me around 2004.
Bill built 2 of these amazing sounding amplifiers as prototypes for me (no serial numbers). I eventually decided to sell one to a customer who was an excellent musician as he loved the amp. I ended up getting too busy with vintage guitar sales and set this particular head aside and stored it away in our climate-controlled warehouse. I kept this amplifier covered and only took it out for a few great players to plug into when they came to buy vintage guitars. They were all blown away by the tone of this head.
This amp has less than 10 hours of use in our smoke-free home, works great, and certainly has “The Tone”. 100 watts with 4-7581 power tubes (7581 tubes are a 6L6 variant that were originally designed for industrial / OEM applications and have more headroom than most 6L6 tubes). 2 foot-switchable channels with boost. The clean tones are just wonderful, and the overdrive is very Dumble-like. The amp also takes an overdrive pedal extremely well in the clean channel, and the effects loop is very transparent."
