About This Listing

- TEMP JANUARY PRICE DROP -

This 40 year old holy grail vintage Rev C edition is arguably Neve’s greatest achievement in two-buss compression to date. The old 80’s units are looking more beat up everyday but not this one! This particular module has a near mint faceplate and original handles still intact. Stereo Transformer balanced inputs AND outputs! Compressor and separate limiter sections. Serial #20212/K - successor to the Neve
32264. This unit sounds better than others I've used and upon further inspection of its topology, it has been verified that it has been modified slights on the output:
600 ohm Input termination resistors have been added across XLR pins 2 (red
wire) and 3 (black wire) on both Input XLR’s. Most devices driving the Lim/Comp input XLR’s do not like a 600 ohm load so the resistors attenuate the signal appropriately. You should find this unit a bit sweeter than other C models (performs more like the metal knob version) however, they can be very easily removed to reset the unit back to stock in all but about 69 seconds with a soldering iron. We believe this was done by Neve AMS in 1991 at the original customers request in the Neve factory due to the way it done. Again, it could not be simpler to remove and we are happy to do it if you prefer. I would recommend hearing it first though, we prefer the mod installed ourselves.

WHAT DAT IS:
The one and only vintage diode buss comp from NYC’s legendary “Sony Recording Studios,” where it lived and was used on countless iconic records, this unit has quite the mojo and oozes legacy (the metal silver Sony Recording Studios inventory badge is still affixed to top of unit). This particular unit was made only 4 years after the 33609’s were originally introduced. There’s definitely something special about it and it sounds exactly how’s you imagine. Even comes with an extra “new old stock” VU glass/housing directly from Sifam Tinsley, the manufacturer who made these for Neve but who doesn’t make them anymore (NOS). The new inferior N models use a very different VU and these have become quite the unobtanium part!

I am trying to fund another U67 so this unit and many others are up on the chopping block, regrettably, so check out my shop for more cool gear too.

These C models are skyrocketing in collectible value as of late as well as getting quite old, so it’s ideal to buy one like ours that has been serviced by AMS Neve and guaranteed to work flawlessly. This unit was serviced directly by AMS/Neve twice and recently a third time by a local professional tech in NYC. In 1991, 2012 and serviced a third time locally in 2021 where my tech went through the entire unit, cleaned the chassis and given a clean bill of health. Unit appears flawless however if you look extremely closely you can noticed a tiny hair line scratch on the left VU glass (if you look very hard). You can’t even see it in the close up pictures, take a close look. Therefore I am including an extremely hard to procure replacement VU housing I got directly from the manufacturer of these VU’s (Neve did not make them). They haven’t sold the replacement VU’s in 20 years and it’s a long story how I got it but just know it’s an original NOS product and comes in original box directly from the original manufacturer, Sifam Tinsley.
You could even even sell the VU for a few hundred bucks if it doesn’t bother you. I actually didn’t even notice it till I had owned it for a year in! The original owner said it had always been like that so I never bothered to change it after I tracked a new one I’m down (See pics for details). Up to you, extra VU is included in the sale.

Notice how clean the interior is. Most of the vintage modules like this lived in smokey recording studios but this one was kept very well at Sony Studios (pet & smoke free control room). It exhibits no sign of wear or issue at all, even though it’s an 1980’s vintage and almost 40 years old, it looks new inside and out. It is currently in use and will be pulled upon sale.

Comes with complete printed manual, extra recall sheets, extra NOS VU housing, IEC power cable, double boxed for safe travels. Packed very securely and insured for full sale value on my dime.

The most striking feature of this unit is the impeccable interior of the unit. Pristinely made, the build quality of this particular unit is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. No one does it like Rupert Neve and I’ve always felt this box is a shining example of how he set his company apart in build quality. No flux, PTP resistor strapped stepped pots that look almost machine built… Everything inside the topology is zip tied or bolted down with great care. All the leads to each component are flawlessly soldered in place and hand shielded. Even the flux has been scrubbed away (unlike many top tier companies like Manley, who leaves it all gunked up on there, even on their reference mics’ PCB’s). Not a wire out of place or unintentionally bent.

No scratches, dings or anything. As you can see it’s super clean. I/O was cleaned with Deoxit D5 and pots and switches cleaned once a year with Deoxit F4 (remeber, never EVER use contact cleaner on pots, switches or faders unless you want to wreck them. Only d4 lube spray. Contact cleaner is for I/O only).

—————————————

I do quite a bit of business online and as a 5 star rated preferred shipper, I know what it means to pack things safe and secure. Rack ears are double braced with styrofoam and I use tons of bubble wrap to make sure there’s no play at all in the extra-heavy duty box. No issues here, your unit will arrive safe and sound, guaranteed. This particular unit will also be double boxed just to make sure. International buyers, please note that all items we sell overseas are sold as is, as we cannot guarantee the safety of carriers in
other countries.
