1969-1970 example of Matsumoku-made Japanese LP copy and this Model 457-2 is Serial No. 226
These fun guitars represent the earliest examples of "Lawsuit-Era" name-brand copies getting better and better. Well-made with solid components and quality manufacturing, it is hard to find such examples of early Les Paul copies from Matsumoku. The National Big Daddy series is one that's simply all kinds of fun to play and rock out with.
The pancake mahogany body feels a lot like a Gibson SG: light yet solid, and features two pre-Maxon humbuckers.
The rosewood fretboard features block inlays. There are of course a few chips of paint missing from the finish, along with some light wear creating the patina of a lovingly-played instrument. Maybe you once played these as a kid in your first garage band.
Currently sporting a robust set of 1978 Grover tuners keeping strings well in check. The original tuners are included with the pickguard. The pickguard has a new Gibson mounting bracket and set screws.
To keep the playability intact for riff-writing, recording, live playing & fun, the following recent work was done:
- New nut
- New bridge
- New strings
- Frets dressed (believe these to be the original frets)
- Set up & Adjusted
- Electronics cleaned and tested
- Work done a top local guitar tech in the Pacific Northwest
- Ready to be played and enjoyed for another 50 years
Packed padded and shipped in guitar box with tracking and insurance. For additional shipping locations or questions, please send a message.
