Up for sale, a 1965 Grassi Custom 2x10 vintage tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A virtually unknown vintage tube amp brand, this Grassi Custom features a cabinet and speakers crafted in the USA, mated with a chassis produced by Univox in Japan (a not uncommon scenario for cost-conscious USA-based distributors in the '60s). Fully serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Grassi is simply one of the best purely overdriven amps we've ever heard. While light on clean headroom, the overdrive is sizzling, focused, and roaring. Powered by a pair of 6AQ5A tubes, this is the perfect secret weapon for studio use, when you want an engineer-friendly crunch that can capture the sound of a full stack on a track (and has enough volume for smaller gigs too). The tone control has enough sweep to dial in the overdrive for a range of pickups, and the built-in tremolo circuit can go from swampy and slow to snappy and fast.
The original transformers are intact, and all of the essential signal and power supply caps have been upgraded in-house to ensure that this amp is performing at its best and reliable for the future. The power cable has also been upgraded to a modern three-prong variety. The speakers are a pair of Jensen C10S drivers that have clean black frames, gold labels, and original cones.
Cosmetically, this amp is extremely clean, and the quality cabinet construction is undoubtedly original and US in origin. From the gray speckled Ampeg-esque tolex to the shield "Grassi Custom" badge and etched faceplate, this is a very stylish and unusual amp. You'll definitely be the only one on your block playing a Grassi.
