About This Listing

On Nguyen Thien Thuat in , known to generations of musicians in southern  simply as "Guitar Street”, instruments typically take around a month to craft. Premium guitars with more intricate paint work and details, meanwhile, can occupy four months of a luthier's time. Guitars start at around $200 and go up to around $1,000, which is still a snip when you consider that the equivalent in the West can cost up to $10,000. Luthiers use wood harvested from the great forests of Europe and North America for their guitars because Vietnamese and other tropical wood is not stable.

Nguyen Thien Thuat became a hub for guitars after Vietnam's reunification back in 1975 and the city name was changed from Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City. For decades, guitar builders have earned the gratitude and respect of Vietnam's legion of musicians. Meanwhile, with the country opening to the outside world after years of isolation, an influx of expatriates and bargain-savvy foreigners has started to provide local craftspeople with some serious business.

Vietnam is becoming internationally known for the quality of its acoustic guitars might be news to some people, but musicians in the country have had an affinity with stringed instruments for many centuries.

This guitar was custom handmade & purchased in Vietnam and brought back to the United States in 2006. Please note that this guitar has an ACTIVE pre-amp that requires a 9 volt "transistor radio" battery to function as an amplified instrument. It has a 3 inch hairline crack on the back of the instrument due to improper storage and humidity control.

All of my guitars have been fully tested and are functional. All of my guitars have been “set up” (neck straightness adjusted when possible, fingerboard oil treated (if rosewood/laurel), action set, pickup height optimized, intonation checked) to MY PERSONAL PREFERENCES. Please note: “setups” are not “one size fits all”. Your personal set up requirements might be different from mine, so, additional adjustments may be needed to suit your setup preferences. Also, for optimal sound and playing ease, I always advise buyers to put a new set of strings on the guitar, the string brand and gauge of their preference. If your guitar has a Tremolo Bridge DO NOT OVERTIGHT TREMOLO ARM WHEN YOU INSTALL THE ARM!!! YOU CAN DESTROY THE TREMOLO ARM BLOCK!!! I suggest you watch some YouTube videos about installing and using Tremolo Arms BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO INSTALL AND USE A Tremolo Arm.

To protect the guitar from damage, the string tension will be relieved before shipping per Reverb.com requirements. You'll need to tune the guitar to pitch when it arrives.
