The ALL AMERICAN II was based on the Melody Makers, but with chrome tuners, no pick guard, rear-mounted controls and a tremolo bridge. It has two high output single coil pickups. It is an unusual model for Gibson, produced in Nashville Tennessee only in the mid 1990s. The body shape is similar to Non-SG shaped Melody Makers or a 1959 Les Paul Junior Special. What really sets this guitar apart from typical Gibsons is that it has 24 very accessible frets and a "Stratocaster" style tremolo system.
It has a three way toggle switch, one volume control and one tone control. The pickup sound is somewhere between a P-90 and a Telecaster, and loud enough to make a tube amp cranked up sing beautifully. At lower volumes, the sound is clear and pretty almost like an acoustic. It has the great action and playability which Gibson is so well known for.
I am the second owner of the guitar. It has pick scratches above and below the pickups.
I polished the guitar but the scratches are still visible. Perhaps someone with an orbital buffer can get them out. There are some other small dinks here and there but they don't go through the finish. There's also a 7mm spot behind the 7th fret that feels like some solvent got on the neck. Not sure when or how that happened, but it's not deep and hardly noticeable. It doesn't go through the clear coat. There are some faint scratches on the headstock face where some strings scratched it. Overall, the guitar presents very well. If you're interested, I can send better pictures of the specific wear.
It plays great and sounds like a Tele more than a Melody Maker style instrument, I just feel the guitar isn't really my style and would probably make someone else happy.
