1973 Gibson Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst ex-KANE-guitarist Dennis van Leeuwen
A very unique celebrity owned and used 1973 Gibson Les Paul Standard Cherry Sunburst by KANE guitarist Dennis van Leeuwen. Van Leeuwen bought this Les Paul around 1998 at Rock Palace in The Hague after KANE signed a record deal with BMG. KANE’s success all started with this particular Les Paul.
Shortly afterwards the band recorded the 2x PLATINUM (!!) and Edison Award winning debut album As Long As You Want This at Wisseloord Studios Netherlands. This Les Paul was used for the studio recordings of the entire album. In addition, Van Leeuwen recorded the well-known and successful hit single Damn Those Eyes with this Les Paul. Also, this Les Paul can be seen in the official videoclip Where Do I Go Now.
This Les Paul was Van Leeuwen’s #1 workhorse and has been used extensively on stage and in the studio. The very first concerts were done with this guitar. On the back, Van Leeuwen has written a short text about the history of the Les Paul, signed by himself and KANE singer Dinand Woesthoff in 2005.
The Les Paul is almost completely original (finish, mahogany pancake body, mahogany neck, maple top, rosewood fingerboard, bridge, 3 pots, 2 knobs, pearl inlays) except for a few modifications. Neck and middle humbuckers are original, the bridge pickup has been replaced by a new Dimarzio. Van Leeuwen has always used a mini-switch instead of the tone control on the guitar to switch the middle humbucker on and off. The original toggle switch and potentiometer are included. It also seems that the neck was re-shaped at the headstock in the past, this to remove the volute. Also there is some new paint on the back of the headstock, serial number 127318 has been moved to the top of the headstock.
Including hardcase and photo of original mini switch-wiring Van Leeuwen.
