10-1838 Vintage 1978 Travis Bean TB-1000S Standard electric guitar == Serial number 1391 -- "Sansui" knobs, 1 5/8 body thickness, Grover tuners == VG+ to Excellent condition but has a Natural refinish, nicely done -- sadly it was the very rare Red! -- original red is still visible in the control cavity so a return to red would be a legitimate restoration (also TB database states it's a Natural refin after factory Red) -- or leave it Natural as it has a very striking non-bookmatched 2-piece Koa body == Action is 5/64" at 12th fret low E and 1/16" high E -- nut width is a hair over 1 5/8", thickness at first fret about 27/32", medium chunky C profile -- almost NO fret wear and no sign frets have been leveled or crowned post-factory -- frets 99% == All original parts except the 4 control cover mounting screws, and it is missing the strap buttons == Electronics working but neither Volume pot quite cuts off, couple of solder joints don't look original == One small finish chip/flaw on back (shown) -- otherwise only light wear to the finish, some button marks on back above neck plate, other minor play wear/marks -- finish appears to be clear lacquer, it's fairly thin and softer than poly -- also Dave apparently brushed conductive silver paint in the control cavity with the controls in place == Back of neck has discolored spots (next-to-last picture, not real noticeable in natural light) -- we initially thought these were scratches but discovered that the neck back had a thin lacquer coat that was flaking (apparently done when the guitar refinished), and I stripped this off today (masking the board well, of course) -- neck is smooth, the spots are surface discoloration only == Weighs just under 10 lbs. (4.5 kg) on my postal scale == Original case in good shape with some wear, replaced "handle" strap == Shipping to USA addresses only == NOTE: TB database states fretboard popped off and was reattached -- there are no outward signs of this -- I obtained the guitar from the widow of the gentleman (David Valerie) who listed it in the database == Another NOTE: "By David Valerie" is faintly engraved on back of neck block -- this and info on the database indicates Mr. Valerie did the refinish from red to natural -- and did it to pro quality -- I didn't initially spot the refin until Ms. Valerie told me.
